When it comes to emerging technologies and marketing, Gary Vaynerchuk is one of those you need to take notice of. There are numerous others I watch and love their content and where I get my nuggets of gold from. Dale Beaumont, Ryan Deiss, Greg Cassar, Ben Angel, Troy Dean, Frank Kern, Wilco De Kreij and many more. So what does Vaynerchuk say about marketing in the year 2016?

Gary in this article talks about how video is revolutionising marketing especially within social apps. The race is on. YouTube, Facebook, SnapChat and the rest are all investing mountains of cash in some cases entire country budgets on providing technology to users and businesses allowing them to capture attention.

Video. Facebook for example are diving deep into 360 degree video and also own Oculus Rift. Some research into that and big big things are coming.

Forget Likes. If you think your ROI in Social Media is Likes and Followers. STOP IT. Where on Earth did you come to believe that?

Here’s the thing, you might think you are the popular kid in school but if there is little to no engagement, attention and consumption of your content how will you get to know your audience? How will they get to know or see you?

Gary like others mention get on the platforms where your customers are.

Unfortunately, it seems like most everyone is still marketing like it’s 1999. Some people even market like it’s 1979.

The mistake they are making is this: they are not following where the consumer attention is going. And in marketing, we need to be placing importance on attention, not impressions.

For a consumer to get excited about something, to be compelled by something, it comes down to attention. Attention, not impressions. They need to really consume it. That is the game.

There are two places right now that companies need to be focusing to win their marketing game. One is mobile, and the social networks contained within mobile. The second is video.

But the medium with the most consumer attention right now is video.
